Theatre Group GUMBO from Japan has been presenting plays at the Edmonton Fringe for several years and has won numerous awards. This summer, GUMBO will perform at the Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Victoria Fringes. While in Edmonton, we have created an opportunity for EJCA members to see the same productions they performed at the Toronto Fringe. We look forward to seeing you there!

What did I forget?
In a world without love, why would I want love?
"Princess" that everyone longs for once. But I'm not Snow White, Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty. I am a forgetful princess.
Is it bad to forget?
What happens if I remember who I am? What did I forget?
In a world without love, why would I want love?
For Princess Amnesia, forgetting is a shield that protects her from her past trauma and the complexity of society, but it also gives her despair.
Like a disjointed puzzle, her memories and emotions are deranged and she loses her identity as to who she is.
This production is based on the issues she faced, such as young carers, mental disabilities, and child neglects. However, behind this lies social issues such as discrimination and exploitation of foreign workers in Japan that her parents' generation experienced.
Princess Amnesia not only expresses the crisis of individual identity, but her figure is a mirror that reflects society, depicting the crisis of modern society.
By digging deep into her forgotten memories, audiences will experience the crisis the world's young people face across borders.
Can a person truly know themselves without the memories that shape their identity?
Is it easy to find an identity in the modern society we live in now?
Is Princess Amnesia, born of modern society, abnormal?
In a world without love, why would we want love?
This is the world premiere of this production.

ニューヨーク冬の国際演劇祭FRIGID Festivalにて、2月23日(水)から「Are you lovin' it?」ニューヨーク公演が始まります！北米最大の演劇祭・エドモントンフリンジ「批評家賞」(2019)ほか各国の演劇祭で受賞多数！悪夢のようなテーマパーク・ワクドナルドランドを舞台に、ファストフード化する高度経済社会を描いたブラックコメディ。
GUMBOは無事渡米、検査と隔離を経て公演準備を進めています。

Orlando Fringe Winter Mini-Festにて上映！

昨年、堺で上演した「ピースフル・ホスピタル」が撮影・編集を経て、いよいよ今月8日(現地時間／日本時間では9日)にアメリカ・オーランドの冬の演劇祭「Orlando Fringe Winter Mini-Fest」で上映されます。現在劇場内での上演、上映はまだできない状況なので野外上映会といくつかの野外パフォーマンスが開催される予定です。
それに加えて、1月8日～15日(日本時間です)にオンライン上でも観られます。10USドルで現在チケット発売中です。よろしくお願いします！

いよいよ今週末です！
コロナの影響で無観客開催になるかも、という局面もありましたが、少し緩和されまして、無事お客さんをお迎えできることになりました。
今年は3月以降の公演が全てなくなったので、やっとここまで漕ぎ着けた、という思いです。この公演は、シンガポール、香港や台湾で現地の役者さんたちと一緒に上演してきた作品「Ring-a-Ring'o Rosie」が基になっています。コロナ禍でゆっくりじっくり練り直した分、今回のバージョンがベスト版になると思います。

新型コロナウィルスの影響で中止になった北米最大の演劇祭、Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival(エドモントン国際演劇祭)が現在、寄付を募っています。ただ、普通に寄付を募っても面白くない！ということで、「あり得ないショウをでっち上げて、そのチケットを買う」＝「寄付」になる、という企画をしています。

2019年8月に参加した北米最大の演劇祭Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival(エドモントン国際演劇祭／カナダ)にて、批評家が選ぶ賞「Critics' Choice Media Pick(批評家賞)]を受賞しました！エドモントン国際演劇祭では、全258団体に対して賞が5つしかなく、その一つに選ばれたことに、非常に驚きました。ここに至るまでたくさんの人に助けていただきました。協力してくれたアーティスト、スタッフの皆さんと喜びを分かち合いたいと思います。本当にありがとうございました！
